How to Keep Your Wedding Stationary on Budget
Everyone knows that planning a wedding can get expensive, and this is no exception when it comes to your stationery! Fortunately, there are lots of ways to set and stay on budget, even for a custom wedding suite. Below, I'm sharing my top tips for saving money on your dream stationery.
- Start Early
Ideally, Save the Dates should be sent about 6 months before your wedding, and invitations about 6-8 weeks before your wedding. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to make design decisions and changes, ordering, assembly, and mailing. By planning ahead, you can save lots of money on expedited design fees or rushed shipping costs.
- Go Digital
Consider sending digital save the dates, or have guests RSVP on your wedding website to save on printing and postage.
Have your heart set on letterpress invitations or hand written calligraphy addresses? Think about foregoing some of the more expensive add-ons (looking at you vintage stamps and hand dyed silk ribbon), and prioritize to make the top of your wish list happen.
- Learn About Your Print Options
When it comes to printing, one size does not fit all. If your printing yourself or working with a custom stationer, ask for multiple print estimates to make sure that you're getting the best deal. Also, it's usually possible to combine print styles to lower production costs. For example, print your invitation in foil or letterpress, and stick to thermography or screen printing on your RSVP cards in matching ink.
- Assemble and Mail Yourself
If you're having custom invitations made, plan to reduce the cost or your invitations by assembling and mailing everything yourself.
- Be Knowledgable about Postage
To keep postage low, keep your invitations standard size and rectangular. Large sizes and unique shapes often require more postage. Also, be mindful of bulky ribbons, folders, or enclosures - added weight or bulky envelopes also add postage.
